Completed: July 2011
This roof is a great example of what happens when the attic is improperly ventilated. The home lacked any type of intake or exhaust ventilation (soffit or ridge ventilation), and as a result the plywood and shingles cooked under the hot sun, causing the shingles to degrade prematurely and the plywood to become extremely brittle. During the course of the installation, we had to remove every existing sheet of plywood and replace it with new 4 ply CDX plywood. We installed a Certainteed 5-Star Integrity Roof System including:
- Certainteed Landmark Shingles
- Certainteed Roofers Select Underlayment
- Certainteed Winterguard Ice and Water Protection
- Aluminum drip edge at the eaves
- AirVent ShingleVent II ridge ventilation
- New chimney flashing
- New plumbing vent pipe collars
- New Permaboot permanent pipe collar covers
We will also be installing new Alside Charter Oak Soffit to complete the balanced attic ventilation system, capping all the fascia and rake trim with Alside Performance G8 aluminum trim coil, installing new gutters and downspouts, and installing Rain Flow Gutter Protection System to keep the gutters free of debris.
